We are a leading supplier and manufacturer of measurement and sensor technology. The group develops joysticks, tilt sensors, and many other components for almost all industrial sectors. For 75 years, the company has concentrated its expertise at its headquarters in Berlin. Together with three other plants in Brandenburg and Hesse, FSG employs more than 500 people.

A newly developed bus-controlled signal light from FSG combines visual and audible warning functions in a robust housing. The device, model number SG-OA-Z-CAN-GS80, is designed for demanding industrial and mobile applications, particularly for use in autonomous agricultural machinery and automated work processes.

FSG's new signaling element is another model based on the manufacturer's many years of experience in the field of safety-relevant optical warning systems. The SG-OA-Z-CAN-GS80 signal light was developed in cooperation with renowned companies in the agricultural sector with the aim of creating a solution for clear and early external communication of autonomous machines and vehicles in accordance with DIN ISO 18497.

CAN bus interface for digital integration

The new device features a CAN bus interface, allowing for easy and seamless integration into the vehicle's electronics. The signal generator produces visual and audible warning signals that can be customized to individual requirements. Typical applications of the SG-OA-Z-CAN-GS80 include indicating autonomous driving movements and safeguarding against changing, dynamic hazard zones during the operation of such vehicles.

The signal light can indicate various driving modes, changes in direction of travel, or general status changes, as well as malfunctions and faults, using both light and sound. Unlike conventional signal devices, the integrated speaker plays stored audio files at a volume of up to 105 dB instead of emitting tones – a real advantage for differentiated, individualized warning messages in the context of autonomous processes.

Further features include its robust construction (IP66 protection class), specifically designed for outdoor use. The housing is made of anodized aluminum and impact-resistant PMMA plastic. The high light output – ≥ 230 cd (amber), ≥ 120 cd (red/green), compliant with ECE-R65 (road approval) – ensures clear visibility even in daylight and at long distances. Control is via CAN bus, compatible with CANopen (250 kbit/s, Node ID 0x19).

Dynamic market with increasing demand

With its new signal light, FSG is responding to the increasing demand for reliable signal transmitters that ensure the safe operation of autonomous machines and vehicles. The sensor manufacturer anticipates a rapidly growing need for such signaling solutions, particularly in the agricultural, construction, logistics, and municipal engineering sectors. The requirements for these signal transmitters will continue to rise with the increasing level of automation. Thanks to its extensive expertise in this specialized field, FSG is well-positioned and, due to its high level of vertical integration, can implement customer-specific requirements quickly and to a high standard.
