We are a leading supplier and manufacturer of measurement and sensor technology. The group develops joysticks, tilt sensors, and many other components for almost all industrial sectors. For 75 years, the company has concentrated its expertise at its headquarters in Berlin. Together with three other plants in Brandenburg and Hesse, FSG employs more than 500 people.
FSG anemometers are used wherever reliable and precise wind speed measurement is required, even under demanding conditions. Two new FSG products innovatively combine a high-intensity LED unit with a wind sensor. These devices can also be used in sensitive areas, such as near airports, to mark obstacles to air traffic.
"Two in one" describes the concept of FSG's two new anemometer models, which are characterized by their small footprint and reduced installation and maintenance requirements. The sensor specialists have combined a wind sensor and an LED light unit in a way that is unique to date.
Integrating the LED lighting unit as a base for the wind turbine solves the problem of shading in conventional combined systems: Previously, depending on the positioning of both devices, either the light signal or the anemometer's star-shaped indicator was shaded by the other element, leading to measurement errors or reduced visibility. Thanks to FSG's unique combined design, both functions can operate at their full potential.
Combination unit available in two versions
The AN-60-HF wind gauge and red LED obstruction light assembly has an IP66 protection rating. It complies with all relevant regulations and standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the General Administrative Regulation for the Marking of Aviation Obstacles (AVV). The device can therefore be used to mark cranes, wind turbines, or buildings up to a height of less than 45 m. A pendulum holds the device in a vertical measuring position. The obstruction light achieves a luminous intensity of 10 or 32 cd (low-power type A or type B, respectively), and the magnetic wind sensor measures wind speeds from 0 to 50 m/s. The combination is powered by 18–33 VDC, and analog signals or CAN bus are available as signal outputs. Electrical connection is via M12 connectors, and mechanical mounting is achieved via a flange with 3 x M6 mounting points.
In the more powerful AN-60-GF version, the combination unit features a motorized tracking system that automatically aligns it in a horizontal position at all times. The redundant lighting system ensures a constant luminous intensity of 2000 cd even if individual LEDs fail. This makes the unit ICAO-compliant (medium-power fire type B; "hazard light") and suitable for use at altitudes of 45 to 150 meters, including near airports.
Durable technology for all weather conditions
Both wind sensor/LED combination devices are designed for crane mounting or boom mounting; central mounting is also possible if required. Three robust wind cups and redundant, long-life LED arrays ensure stable operation over the long term. FSG has incorporated an (optional) electronically controlled shaft heater to protect against freezing and ice buildup. This heater activates at temperatures below +5 °C and ensures operation down to -40 °C.
